PNG Minimum Wage Review 2025
2nd June, 2025
This BCFW briefing note highlights the urgent need to raise Papua New Guinea’s national minimum wage, which has remained unchanged for over a decade despite rising inflation and cost of living. Drawing on local data and regional examples, the note presents clear policy options and recommendations to support decent work, restore wage value, and reduce working poverty—especially for women and low-paid workers in the formal sector. With the reactivation of the Minimum Wage Board, PNG has a timely opportunity to reform wage policy for a more equitable and inclusive economy.
